3 lb. ground beef
1 lb. Italian sausage
4 eggs
1 c. dry bread crumbs (packaged Italian crumbs are good)
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese
1/2 c. fresh parsley
1/2 c minced onion
3 lg. clove minced garlic
1 tsp. basil
1 tsp. oregano
1 tbsp salt
2 tsp. pepper
1 tsp fennel seeds (optional)

Start by heating a pot of tomato sauce. Mix the ingredients until well blended, then shape into medium-sized balls, about 3 inches in diameter. Fry the meatballs in oil until browned. Put them on a plate covered by paper towels to drain, then add them to the pot of tomato sauce. Let the meatballs simmer in the tomato sauce for at least 1 hour, but longer is better.
