You can make this drink martini style or serve it in an old-fashion glass over ice. It is slightly bitter, but the simple syrup takes the edge off. I am indebted to one of my stepsons for introducing me to this drink.

Preparation:
Put ice in a martini glass and fill with cold water. Let it sit while you make the drink (3-5 minutes) to chill the glass.

Ingredients
2 ounces rye whiskey or bourbon
1/4 ounce Fernet Branca
1/4 ounce simple syrup dashes
Angostura bitters

Directions:
Fill a martini shaker with ice. Pour the ingredients into the shaker. Stir for 20 seconds and strain into the chilled martini glass or, if you prefer, into an old-fashioned glass with 2-3 ice cubes.
