The Perfect Manhattan
The Perfect Manhattan is a variation of the Manhattan. The difference is in the use of vermouth. The Manhattan is 3 parts rye or bourbon to one part red (sweet) vermouth. The Perfect Manhattan uses the same amount of vermouth, but substitutes half of the red vermouth with white (dry) vermouth. The result is a drink that is not quite as sweet as the the Manhattan.
This is the Bear’s standard drink. He prefers bourbon, and uses Jim Beam at home, but Woodford Reserve or Knob Creek when out.
Preparation:
Put ice in a martini glass and fill with cold water. Let it sit while you make the drink (3-5 minutes) to chill the glass. Empty the martini glass when the drink is ready.
Ingredients:
Bourbon
Red vermouth
White vermouth
Bitters
Mixing the drink:
Fill a shaker with ice cubes.
Add 2 drops of bitters.
Add one shot consisting of half red and half white vermouth.
Add three shots of bourbon
Stir about 15 times (do not shake).
Strain into the martini glass.
The Bear does not use garnishes, unless Luxardo cherries are available. If you do not specify when ordering at a bar or restaurant, you will most likely get a maraschino cherry or a lemon twist.
